With Gravotech engraving solutions for personalised sports gear, you can offer customisation on a wide range of equipment (balls, baseball bats, golf club, hunting gear, or gloves) and other sport-related items (trophies, bottles, or medals). Personalisation is booming in the sports industry. Whether it's a ball, racket, or medal, making sports gear unique with engraving helps identify it easily, especially useful in clubs or teams, or make the perfect gift for a sport lover. Similarly, the global licensed sports merchandise market, which includes customised accessories and promotional items, is projected to reach USD 38.33 billion by 2032*, with an annual growth rate of around 5%. Which Gravotech solution for personalised sports gear?

Our laser tables LS100, LS100 EX, LS900 are the ideal laser engravers for golf clubs, and for customising :

  • Large object personalisation (e.g., bats, gloves, rackets).
  • Trophy plate cutting, all-around engraving with a rotary device or serial engraving on medals.

Depending on your application, we offer two laser sources:

  • CO2 lasers: perfect for engraving and cutting organic materials (like wood, leather, rubber), plastics, and anodised aluminium.
  • Fibre lasers: ideal for marking metals such as trophy plates, aluminium medals, or metal accessories.

Laser tables are the perfect solution for producing high-quality, contrasted results without physical contact. Laser engraving is fast, precise, and delivers a clean finish with no need for consumables.

Mechanical engraving offers a more traditional and durable finish, ideal for premium personalisation. Our machines are compatible with a wide range of materials, including metal (aluminium, brass, stainless steel), plastics (acrylic, ABS, laminates), glass, or wood.

  • Compact and versatile, the M20 X is ideal for retail use and suited for engraving medals, trophy plates, or even hunting knives. It’s the perfect choice for shops that need a small footprint without compromising on material versatility.
  • Designed for larger pieces, the IS400 Volume is the ideal trophy engraving machine, baseball engraver, and personalised hunting gear. Thanks to the rotary device, circular parts can also be customised with high precision.

Mechanical engraving is also compatible with gilding wax, allowing the addition of colour-filled markings for a premium touch.

Compact and ideal for retail shops or events, the WeLase™ allows personalisation on smaller sports items: balls, water bottles, smartwatches, or fitness accessories.

For a warehouse or backshop use, the LW2 or LW3 are the best choice for personalised sports gear items like golf wedges, hunting knives, or multiple engraving of medals.

Fast and easy to use, they enable quick customisation on a wide range of materials depending on the laser source:

  • CO2 (WeLase™ only) for organic materials (leather, rubber, cork, glass...) or anodised aluminium;
  • Fibre for metals or plastic;
  • Green for organic materials, metals, and plastics.

Gravotech offers a range of consumables for trophy engraving labels and plaques:

  • Plastic labels with a metallic finish: Gravolase™ Metallics is the ideal, cost-effective material for laser engraving and cutting metallic-look labels. For mechanical engraving machines, Metallex™ is the equivalent material.
  • Thin self-adhesive labels: Flexilase™ is a flexible plastic material available in metallic or solid-colour finishes, compatible with laser machines only.
  • Genuine metal labels: Gravometall™ produces authentic-looking brass plaques, that add significant value to the trophy. Compatible with mechanical engraving machines only.

Laser or rotary engraving for personalised sports gear: which to choose?

Laser engraving for personalised sports gear

Laser engraving delivers a clean and modern look, with a flat and sharp finish. It creates naturally high-contrast markings, especially on organic materials like wood or leather. It’s often preferred for its speed, precision, and minimal maintenance.

Laser systems are available with:

  • CO2 sources: for wood, leather, plastic, rubber, anodised aluminium.
  • Fibre sources: for metals such as aluminium, stainless steel, brass.
  • Green sources: for organic materials, metals, and plastics.

Typically, laser solutions are used for personalising large, round or flat objects (such as tennis racket personalisation, gloves, racket covers...), for engraving all around the item with the rotary device, or for batch engraving of medals or cutting of trophy plates.

Key benefits:

  • Fast, contactless marking.
  • No tool wear or physical contact.
  • Great for high-contrast and modern designs.
  • Simple setup and high throughput.

Mechanical engraving for personalised sports gear

Mechanical engraving produces a more artisanal, tactile result. It cuts into the material, creating visible depth and texture. This technique is ideal when a premium or traditional look is desired, moreover it allows colour filling using gilding wax.

It works on a wide variety of materials such as metals (aluminium, brass, stainless steel), plastics (ABS, acrylic, engraving laminates), and glass (using diamond tips)

Rotary machines also adapt well to non-flat or round shapes, such as trophies, medals, hunting gear like knives, or cylindrical trophies

Key benefits:

  • Engraves with depth and texture.
  • Adds a handcrafted, high-value finish.
  • Colour-fill possible for enhanced visuals.
  • Versatile on shape and material.

FAQ: The 5 questions most frequently asked of our experts

🔽 What is the best engraving machine for personalised sports gear?

The IS400 Volume is the best trophy engraving machine and baseball engraver. For personalised hunting gear and personalisation on small items, we recommend using the M20 X. The laser tables (LS100, LS100 EX, LS900) are perfect for engraving small items in batches or for tennis racket personalisation.

🔽 Can you engrave on irregular or curved surfaces like bats, balls, and helmets?

Yes, Gravotech machines can be equipped with a rotary device to turn the object while engraving, ensuring the design remains undistorted around the circumference of a baseball bat or a tennis racket handle. It is also possible to engrave slightly curved objects (tennis balls, football or soccer balls) with a laser engraving machine on a flatbed without a rotary attachment.

🔽 Is laser engraving on my sport equipment like golf club permanent and legal for tournament play?

According to USGA and R&A rules, marking your clubs for identification is generally permitted as long as it does not significantly change the weight or aerodynamics of the head.

🔽 Can I engrave my sports equipment without affecting its performance?

Yes, when using the correct technology. For example, laser engraving is a non-contact process that affects only the surface layer, meaning it won’t change the balance of a golf club or the structural integrity of a carbon fibre bike frame.

🔽 Can I add colour to my engravings on medals and trophies?

Yes, mechanical trophy engraving machines create a physical groove that is perfect for Gravolaque or other paint refills to match team colours. For a more "natural" contrast, we recommend laser engraving, it creates different renderings according to the material (dark on wood, white on glass, or gray on metal).
